Do everything without grumbling or arguing, so that you may become blameless and pure, “children of God without fault in a warped and crooked generation.” Then you will shine among them like stars in the sky as you hold firmly to the word of life. – Philippians 2:14-16a

Welcome to Second City Stars! We are so excited to have the honor of working with your child. Second City Stars is the children’s ministry (4 months – 10 years old) of Second City Church. From start to finish, we strive to make every child’s time with us a great experience by providing a safe, age-appropriate environment where the Bible is taught in creative, relevant and fun ways. During our time together, your child will encounter God, be equipped with the Word and be engaged with the community around him/her.

Presently, our children’s program is divided into three age groups:

Pioneers (ages 4 months-3 years)

Explorers ( ages 4-6 years)

Adventurers (age 6 by Sept. 1-10 years)

WHAT TO EXPECT

Drop-Off

When meeting at the Lincoln Park High School Auditorium, look for the Second City Church banners to direct you toward the main entrance (with a ramp). Once in the building, proceed straight ahead to the Second City Stars' registration table where you will be greeted by a volunteer or staff member who will help electronically check-in your child. If you are a first time guest, you will be asked to complete a Second City Stars' Registration Form. All parents will receive a childcare label with a number on it matching the safety sticker that will be applied to your child’s back. Your child will then be escorted into the children’s ministry room where he/she will be checked-in on a classroom roster, and you will be free to participate in the worship service.

Pick-Up

Safety is of the utmost importance, so please bring your childcare label with you at pick-up. If you misplace this label, you will be required to produce a valid picture ID. If you delegate another individual to pick up your child, he/she must be listed on your child’s registration form, be 18 or older and must have the childcare label to do so.

Please, pick up your child at his/her classroom. A Second City Stars' worker will greet you at the door and ensure that the childcare label you provide matches with the safety sticker on your child’s back. Upon identifying the matching tags, the Second City Stars' worker will then check your child-out on the classroom roster.

COMMONLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Who is working with my children?

Our Second City Stars workers are dedicated individuals who have a heart to see children grow in godliness. All workers have passed an extensive background check and have completed an interview process prior to serving.

What are the procedures for keeping the children safe?

Only individuals with the appropriate corresponding childcare label may pick-up a child from Second City Stars. No one over the age of 12 is allowed into the children’s ministry room unless they are an authorized Second City Stars Worker or a pre-approved Visiting Parent (see guidelines below).

Guidelines for Visiting Parents:

Parents, we understand that you may want to check on your child(ren), especially when your child is being introduced to a new environment. A few things to note when you are accompanying your child(ren) in Second City Stars:

  • Visiting parent(s) may accompany their child only and participate in their child’s activities only.
  • Visiting parent(s) must register at the check-in table.
  • Visiting parent(s) must wear a “visitor” sticker available at the registration table.
  • Visiting parent(s) must follow check-in/out procedures for their child.
  • After two visitations in Second City Stars, the parent must fill out the volunteer application and submit to a background check.

What do I do if my child is sick?

We want all of our children to stay healthy and strong. Please refrain from bringing your child to Second City Stars if he or she has:

  • Had a fever in the past 48 hours
  • Vomited or had diarrhea in the past 48 hours
  • Nose drainage that is cloudy, yellow or green (anything but clear)
  • A rash that has not been diagnosed by a doctor and/or is believed to be contagious
  • A heavy or frequent cough
  • Discharge in or around the eyes.

If any child exhibits symptoms of sickness or concern after being dropped off, we will immediately contact the parents or responsible adult in an effort to maintain health for your child and the entire class.

How can I get involved, or what if I have any further questions?

If you would like to volunteer, or have any further questions, please contact Christina Rice, Second City Stars Director, at 773-318-0495. Our ministry support staff and volunteers are here to serve you and your family as you desire to grow toward God.
